Allen Education Center Every Child Deserves to Feel Success Helping over 1,100 students from Pre-K to 11th grade

About the Allen Education Center

In the spring of 2001, James Allen opened the Allen Education Center, a diagnostic testing and tutoring center, in Wappingers. In June of 2002, after completing seven full years of teaching in the Wappingers Central School District, Mr. Allen left the classroom experience to devote himself fully to the students at the Center. Since opening in 2001, the Allen Education Center has helped over 1,100 students from pre-K to 12th grade make academic gains in all areas of reading, writing, and Math. The reason for our students' continued success is that everything we do is governed by our simple motto:

"Every child deserves to feel success."

Owner James Allen works with a student. When we say success, we mean academically, socially, and emotionally. As teachers, we fully understand that it is essential that we make a connection with each of our students, and that each of our students see that they will be valued when they walk through our doors. We also understand that when a child is having difficulty in school, it can affect the whole family. By combining multi-sensory teaching methods, certified and highly trained teachers, and a positive and encouraging teaching environment, we are able to help each of our students make academic gains in their schoolwork while fostering a sense of self-confidence in their own abilities.

Initial Diagnostic and Skills Testing

Through our initial diagnostic and skills testing session we are able to determine the specific skill gaps that are preventing your child from achieving success in his or her schoolwork. If a student is currently reading below grade level, they will have difficulty in the areas of their schoolwork involving reading. Perhaps the student has no difficulty in reading the words on the page, but they have difficulty understanding and remembering what they read. This would be an issue with reading comprehension. If a student does not know their multiplication facts that would explain why they can't complete long multiplication problems. Sometimes children don't have any skill gaps, but they need assistance with their daily schoolwork. Whatever academic situation your child is currently facing, our testing session will give a sense of clarity and quantifiable data regarding your child's specific strengths and weaknesses.

Our curricula combines our own material with sources familiar to the student from their own studies.

Individualized Curriculum

Based on the results of the Initial Testing session, discussions with the parents, and correspondence with each student's teacher(s) we develop an individualized curriculum tailored to each student's specific academic needs. A student's area of focus could be any of the following: getting their current reading level up to grade level, filling in the foundational skills the student needs to be able to complete their current schoolwork, or providing a combination of skills instruction and homework support. The primary focus for many of our junior high and high school students is homework support.

Certified Teachers

Our staff of certified teachers are all skilled in creating a warm and caring environment that fosters a sense of pride and accomplishment in each of their students. Our teachers are all college graduates with education degrees, with many holding multiple degrees in their field. Each of our teachers complete extensive training and testing to ensure that they are well versed in the multi-sensory teaching methods and curriculum we use.
